Amsterdam Free Library – Amsterdam Reads
Received $550 for books, staff time, and miscellaneous materials to provide 4 programs, 2 each, at Hillcrest Spring and Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in conjunction with the one community, one book program Amsterdam Reads. This will serve people who are older adults and those who may have disabilities.
Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, St. Johnsville- A Baker’s Dozen
Received $1000 for books and materials to make baskets with reading materials and journals which will circulate along with ingredients and a recipe for chocolate chip cookies, to members of the St. Johnsville Senior Saints and the Peanut Butter and Jelly Book Club. The purpose is to deepen and strengthen community ties and create an opportunity that nurtures and connects the community after a devastating year of flooding.
Schenectady County Public Library -Library/ Nursing Home Partnership
Received $1000 to serve Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center by purchasing a book cart with flat surfaces so a computer can be used by library staff and volunteers offering library services to residents. A brochure promoting the library’s services will be developed, introduced to Baptist staff, and promoted among residents and prospective residents and their families. Since the library serves 17 area nursing homes, the brochure can be modified for use at other locations. Remaining funds will be used to purchase large print books.
Sharon Springs Free Library – All Write
Received $1000 to offer a three session writing conference which includes a journal making workshop. There will be an open mic program following the second writing session. Target populations include older adults, literacy students, and teens. Partial funding for the journal making workshop will be provided by Tri-County Arts Council. Partners for this project are Sharon Springs Arts Council, Sharon Springs Central School, Sharon Joint Youth Commission, Schoharie County Office for the Aging, Tri-County Arts Council, and Schoharie County Literacy Volunteers of America.
