The Public Libraries Section of NYLA is now accepting applications for the following awards:
Outstanding Public Library Building
There will be one award for a new or remodeled public library building in New York State. Emphasis will be placed upon those projects that demonstrate cost-effective solutions to space challenges as well as innovative usage of space and layout in the new library. The project must have been completed between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006. PLS will award $1000.00 plus a plaque to the winning library and may also name honorable mentions.
2007 Conference Scholarship Award
The award includes full conference registration, and up to $500.00 towards conference expenses. It also includes membership in NYLA if required by the individual. The winner is expected to attend the full conference, including the awards ceremony. Additionally, the winner will be asked to help with staffing at the PLS booth on the floor of the trade show.
L. Marion Moshier/Asa Wynkoop Award for Distinguished Librarianship
This bi-annual award honors a library director who has given outstanding service to a community of 7500 population or less. (A professional degree is not a requirement.) Nominees are judged on personal and professional growth, quality oflibrary services provided, and initiative taken to reach underserved parts of the community. Nominations may be made by a library board member or library staff member. Each nomination must be accompanied by three letters of support from the community. The award is $1000.00, a plaque for the library, and inclusion on a plaque to be placed in the NYLA office. Attendance at the NYLA conference in Buffalo, October 18 & 19, 2007, is a requirement of acceptance.
The deadline to apply for all of these awards is June 29, 2007.
