The Save Our History Grant Program
, developed by the History Channel, provides funding to support collaboration between history organizations and schools or youth groups on projects that teach children about their local heritage and actively engage them in its preservation. For example, projects might focus on the history and/or preservation of a building, historic site, historic collections, or an historic event that is important to the local community. Funds are provided for primary research, physical preservation or clean-up efforts, historical documentation, archaeological or architectural studies, oral histories, and efforts to register a site for local, state, or national landmark status. Eligible applicants must partner with a local elementary, middle, or high school, or an organization that provides educational programming for children of similar ages. The application deadline is June 5, 2009. Visit the website
listed above for program details and online application guidelines.
