MVLS Member Library staff, trustees, Friends and patrons are encouraged to attend Library Advocacy Day on March 12, 2012, sponsored by the New York Library Association (NYLA). Our goal is to show our legislators how much people care about libraries by filling their offices with library supporters. Our main message is that libraries deserve same 4% increase that schools are projected to receive in the Governor’s budget.
Here’s the day’s schedule:
Legislative Breakfast Reception: 8:00 – 9:30am @Meeting Room Six, Concourse Level, Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany, NY
Visits with State Legislators in the Legislative Office Building (LOB): 10:30am – 3:00pm. Appointments with all MVLS area legislators are made by MVLS.
Our specific appointments:
10:30 AM – Senator James Seward – Room 433A Capital (COB, MID, SHO, SHS)
11:30 AM – Assemblyman Peter Lopez – Room 429 LOB (COB, MID, SHO, SHS)
12:30 PM – Senator Hugh Farley – Room 711 LOB (AMS, CAN, FON, FTH, FTP, GLV, JOH, NOR, SCP, STJ)
1:00 PM – Assemblyman George Amedore – Room 718 LOB (AMS, CAN, FON, FTH, FTP, SCP, STJ)
1:30 PM – Assemblyman Marc Butler – Room 318 LOB (GLV, JOH, NOR)
2:00 PM – Assemblyman Jim Tedisco – Room 404 LOB (SCP)
MVLS makes the day as simple as possible by making all appointments and leading participants through the day. Plus, meet at MVLS at 8:00 a.m. for a van ride to the capital! Let Kathy Insero know a.s.a.p. or by March 1 if you would like a ride, as we have limited van space. Please note: bring your lunch (that you can eat in the hallway) as this year we do not have a gap in our schedule allowing for us to return to the concourse for lunch.
If you can’t come to this Advocacy Day, it is important to visit these legislators in their local offices! Contact and local offices are listed here: http://www.mvls.info/advocacy/legislators/
