MVLS Member Library staff, trustees, Friends and patrons are encouraged to attend Library Advocacy Day on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, sponsored by the New York Library Association (NYLA). Our goal is to show our legislators how essential library services are to their constituents by filling their offices with library supporters. NYLA’s 2014 budget and legislative priorities, as well as talking points, are outlined here. The main budget priority for 2014 is full formula funding at $102 million for Library Aid.

MVLS makes the day as simple as possible by making all appointments and leading participants through the day. We have limited van space for anyone interested in carpooling – please let Kathy Insero know by Thursday, February 20 if you would like to carpool. If you are planning on coming on your own, please let Kathy know that as well, so we know how many folks to expect. Please note: Expect airport-like security at the Concourse/Capitol. Allow time before appointments and when returning from lunch to clear security.
If you can’t come to this Advocacy Day, it is important to visit these legislators in their local offices! Contact and local offices are listed here: http://www.mvls.info/advocacy/legislators/ Also use NYLA’s online advocacy tools to contact the Governor and your legislators now.
