Please join us for an introduction to New York Heritage and unique approaches to highlighting and using digital collections to engage your public.
New York Heritage (nyheritage.org), a local history online resource, and its affiliation with the Digital Public Library of America (dp.la), will be highlighted by Susan D’Entremont, Regional Archivist at the Capital District Library Council. She will provide an overview of the site and discuss considerations for getting started, including how to be a part of the New York Heritage Project and ways to keep up the momentum of adding to your collection.
Jim Davies, Local History and Reference Librarian, and Deanna DiCarlo, elibrarian, at Albany Public Library, will also be joining us to tell about their innovative approach to promoting digital collections. Using the library’s New York Heritage Digital Collections, which showcase a selection of photos of Albany homes, businesses, weather events, and transportation from the early 20th Century, they developed an urban renewal walking tour of Albany’s Clinton Square Neighborhood. The Albany History Race they designed offered a way to entice people to actually travel to various sites in the area.
