Lesson

  • Activities
    • Use the pattern task cards to introduce patterns and repetition of shapes forming other shapes.
    • Encourage your student to create patterns beyond the pattern book. Suggest a shape (ex. a bird) and have him/her try to create that shape on the floor/table/desk.
    • Using the shapes, alternate between you and your student creating a pattern using the shapes and challenge the other to recognize and continue the pattern.
    • Collect different objects from around the house (buttons, legos, crayons, match-box cars) and create patterns using the different objects either all together or as groups.
    • Notice patterns in nature, in grocery stores, food on the table, and other daily activities.
