HSBC
in the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Deadline: Proposals submitted throughout
the calendar year. Requests reviewed on a rolling basis.
These grants focus on education and the environment. Education
in its broadest terms and concentrates on underprivileged young people
and schools in economically deprived areas. Its focus is on K-12 public
schools and postsecondary institutions, as well as adult education,
such as public-library programs and welfare-to-work programs.
Programs targeting conservation, sustainable development,
or environmental education will also be considered. It will consider
support for programs that promote good environmental practices, and
programs that increase environmental public awareness. It also welcomes
proposals for programs focusing on preventing environmental degradation;
scientific research on environmental issues; and energy conservation,
recycling, preservation of green spaces, waste reduction, and ecological
concerns.
FOUNDATION
CENTER-PUBHUB
The Foundation Center has established a database that provides information
on research products created with funding from nonprofits. It includes
a database of electronic versions of reports and issue briefs created
by or with foundation resources. Browse documents by year of publication,
or by "Publishers, Funders and Related Organizations". Coverage
goes back to 1988. 990's are also included. Each database entry includes
the name of the organization that produced the report, the document
title, a publication date, a brief annotation, and a direct link to
the document.

NEW YORK STATE
COUNCIL FOR THE HUMANITIES MAJOR AND MINI GRANTS
Deadline: Mini Grant-anytime
All projects should relate to humanities
disciplines, integrally feature humanities scholars, be intended for
the general public, and comply with federal nondiscrimination statutes,
federal debt status, debarment and suspension requirements, and drug-free
workplace requirements. It is acceptable for an applicant to have
both a Major Grant application and Mini Grant application before the
Council for consideration at the same time, but the proposals must represent
different projects.
THE
LIBRI FOUNDATION-BOOKS
FOR CHILDREN
Deadline: March 15th, July 15th, and December 15th
The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization
which donates new, quality, hardcover children's books to small, rural
public libraries throughout the United States. The Libri Foundation
will match any amount of money raised by a library's local sponsor(s)
from $50 to $350 on a 2-to-1 ratio. Thus, a library can
receive up to $1,050 worth of new, quality, hardcover children's books.
After a library receives a grant, local sponsors (such as formal or
informal Friends groups, civic or social organizations, local businesses,
etc.) have four months, or longer if necessary, to raise their matching
funds.
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, RURAL
DEVELOPMENT
COMMUNITY FACILITIES LOAN PROGRAM
DEADLINE: None
Assists in the development of essential community facilities in rural
areas. A Community Facilities loan would be approved to finance libraries
and other structures. Rural Development also guarantees loans made by
a bank, savings and loan, insurance company, Federal Land Bank or other
qualified lender against a certain percentage of loss under this program.
ELIGIBILITY: Rural towns and villages of 20,000 people or less. FUNDING:
$12 million in low-interest loans is available. FOR MORE INFORMATION:

MIX
IT UP
Deadline: None
Offered by the Southern Poverty Law Center for youth-directed projects
that focus on identifying, crossing, and challenging social boundaries
in communities. Preference given to plans that show youth leadership,
collaboration, and a plan for continuing effort. Grants offer $250.
AVON
FOUNDATION -- WOMEN'S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
Deadline: Rolling- send proposals as early in the calendar year
as possible
The Avon Foundation supports organizations and programs that provide
women with economic opportunity. These include programs that offer women
the ability to acquire the skills and support they need to become economically
secure. The Avon Foundation makes grants only to organizations and institutions
having tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code.
BARNES
& NOBLE K-12 GRANTS
Deadline: Applications reviewed on a continuing basis
Barnes & Noble provides funding to local and regional efforts to
promote literacy and the arts in K-12 education. Proposals should include
a literacy or arts component that fosters both student achievement
and community growth. Grant recipients must plan to promote the program
with Barnes & Noble and be willing to work with the local store(s)
on in-store programming. Potential applicants should visit a store in
their
area to receive more information. Proposals should be submitted to the
community relations manager or store manager. All nonprofits supporting
the arts, literacy, or K-12 education are eligible to apply.
THE
KRESGE FOUNDATION
The Green Building Initiative of the Kresge Foundation
is aimed at increasing the awareness of sustainable or green building
practices among nonprofits. The Foundation is making available a series
of educational materials designed specifically for nonprofits to help
them understand the green approach and consider it next
time they build. The Initiative also offers special grants to help fund
the green planning process and bonus grants to those able to obtain
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for
their buildings.
HOME
DEPOT
Deadline: Accepted throughout the year
Efforts are concentrated in 4 areas: affordable housing, at-risk youth,
environment, and disaster preparedness and relief. Organizations must
be designated 501 (c)3.
POETS AND WRITERS
Deadline: At least 8 weeks prior to the proposed event.
Pays fees to writers giving readings or conduct workshops.
While funding is for writers' fees, organizations must apply.
HUDSON
RIVER BANK AND TRUST COMPANY FOUNDATION
Deadline: None
Grants are offered in Fulton, Montgomery,
Schenectady, and Schoharie Counties in the following areas: health care,
human services, community development, economic development, education,
art and culture, historic preservation, environmental protection, and
youth development.
