Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 70 East Main Street, Cobleskill, NY

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church

What has always been referred to as the Town Clock looks out from the steeple of Zion Lutheran Church. Many citizens of the town made donations to pay for the clock, with the maintenance and repair paid for by the Village. The installation was in the early 1830's.

Every Sunday afternoon, gentlemen would climb the clock tower to a crank attached to complicated cables and drums which lifted two weights of 100 pounds each to wind the clock. In 1972, the Chamber of Commerce of Cobleskill was authorized to replace the clock with an electronic clock and bell. The original works are on display at the Old Stone Fort Museum in Schoharie.
