How was the Town Clock kept accurate?

For many years, William Kennedy was caretaker of the clock. Every day at noon, he would listen for a signal on the radio which gave the correct time. Then, using a stop watch, he would hurry over to the tower to correct it, as the clock would gain about a minute every week.

Did the Town Clock always work correctly?

Actually no. There's sort of a humorous story about how, about 60 years ago, the clock ran amok and started striking and striking. The whole town woke up, and thought perhaps there was a fire. Mr. Kennedy had to get up, quickly dress, and rush over to the church, grab the keys, climb the tower, and stop the clock from chiming. I'll bet a lot of people started their day early after all that commotion!
