Masonic Temple, Fort Plain, NY

In 1835, what is now known as the Masonic Temple was built for use as a private and public high school. It could accommodate about 100 students. Those attending from the surrounding counties could board at area homes for a weekly fee. The school was well attended and successful due to Fort Plain's location on the Schenectady and Utica Railroad and the Erie Canal. The building was eventually taken over by the Masons and Eastern Star and has recently been sold to private ownership.
