Erie Canal, Fort Plain, NY

Erie Canal

Two hundred years ago, it was very hard for Americans to cross the Appalachian Mountains. Some peoples' dreams were to build a new ship canal. Work was started on the Erie Canal in 1817. It was completed in 1825. In Fort Plain there was a lock, a dam, a terminal, and a dock. When the canal was fully completed, it ran from Albany to Buffalo.
