Gloversville Free Library, Gloversville, NY

Gloversville Free Library

Several smaller libraries preceded the present Gloversville Library. The Farmer's Library was the first in 1803. Then the Young Ladies Library Association was established in 1853 and became Gloversville's second library. In 1873 the Young People's Library burst into life. The Levi Parson's Library, the forerunner to the present Gloversville Free Library was founded in 1880 with generous donations by Judge Parsons.

In 1902 the great industrialist Andrew Carnegie donated $50,000 for the construction of a library building, which the city of Gloversville would annually support. The building opened in 1905 and remains a free library to this day.
