Johnstown Public Library, Johnstown, NY

Public Library

This beautiful Carnegie Library was opened in 1902 and remains to this day, the center of information for the citizens of Johnstown. It is a fine example of French Renaissance design and one of the few remaining Carnegie Libraries in the country.

Mr. Andrew Carnegie donated $25,000 to help the city build the 8,000 square foot building. It has withstood almost 100 years of time and still stands as a testament of true craftsmanship. It has been modernized slightly and grown to the size of 12,000 square feet.

The collection began with 4,500 books and today now includes over 75,000 books and other materials. It is much used and over 65,000 visitors on average each year come through the door.
