First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown, NY

Johnstown - First Presbyterian Church

This edifice is the second home for the parish. Sir William Johnson allocated 50 acres of land in 1765 for the Presbytery to establish their church and public meeting house. In 1862 the congregation had concluded that a larger, more beautiful structure should be built. It was at that time that plans were put into place to construct the current building. It is built of brick and cost $33,000 when it was completed in 1865. It stands 60 feet by 110 feet and 133 to the top of the spire. Their first service was held November 26, 1865.
