Old Quaker Street Library

In the mid 1940's the Quaker Street Cooperative was formed by a group of women in the area. With borrowed money they opened a library on Schoharie Turnpike in the upstairs of a barn. The library then moved to a building on Quaker Lane, and eventually across the street to this building, which dates to the early 1800's. The move was effected using children's wagons to move the books. The library was the site of story hours for youngsters as well as Halloween parties and other festivities. The library moved to its present location in 1984 and the building was converted to a residence.
