Interview with: Wayne Harvey
Interviewed by: Emily Carbone & Nancy Gifford on 5/22/01

Emily: What can you tell us about City Hall?

Wayne: City Hall was called Fagel's Folly because Fagel was mayor at the time the hall was built and they spent so much money that they called it Fagel's Folly and it is an absolutely beautiful building and the architecture is absolutely superb. For ladies it is very interesting, because if you look up on the roof line, there is a design under the eaves that look like curtains, and they are called "swags".

It is a combination of styles of architecture, not just one style. It has a lot of the old British architecture in it that we copied. The British called it Georgian, but we didn't want to call it that so we simplified it and called it Federal. But mostly the building is Georgian because it is a little more fancy than the Federal design. The steeple burned about 20 years ago.
