Interview with: Anne Hendrix, Town of Schoharie Historian
Interviewed by: Catherine Caiazzo. Director, Schoharie Free Library

Transcript:

"The [Civil War] training ground was elsewhere, Camp Vedder, was where Guernsey's Nursery is now, the old Fair Grounds."

"The only thing I've read about Camp Vedder is a great story. Edgar Ryder from Cobleskill wrote reminiscences later in life……."

"He remembered coming down Schoharie Hill…There was a sendoff for the soldiers that had trained at Camp Vedder and his description's wonderful. Coming down the hill and there are horses and teams…. 'There were horses and carriages as far as the eye could see in any direction.' "

"In the mid 1880's, the County actually asked some men who were interested in history to form a Historical Society. So we have one of the oldest historical societies, in the State…"["Congratulations."]"Thank you. We're older than Cooperstown and most of the others. But that was the reason, because the County had to do something with that huge building."
