Roth & Engelhardt Peerless Piano Player Company, Hough Street,
St. Johnsville, NY

Roth & Engelhardt

In 1889, Frederick Engelhardt and AP Roth at the Peerless Piano Player Company manufactured the first American coin operated piano. In 1908 Englehart bought out Roth's interest and Engelhardt & Sons prospered until 1915 when production ceased due to financial problems and competition within the industry. At the height of their business, Engelhardt and Sons shipped 3000 pianos per year throughout the world ranging in price from $550 - $2000. The building went on to house Little Falls Footwear, a division of Wolverine Shoes, and is now used for storage.
