Council of War. Pat 1869. Statuary by John Rogers (1829-1904) President Lincoln, General Grant and Secretary of State Stanton John Rogers (1829-1904) was a machinist from Manchester, New Hampshire, who turned his hobby of sculpting into a financially successful venture. From the originals he meticulously fashioned of red clay, he had bronze master molds made from which plaster copies were cast. He specialized in five different categories: theatrical, Shakespeare, Civil War, everyday life, and horses. His large detailed groupings protrayed the life and times of the period between 1859 and 1892. From Schoeder's Antiques Price Guide 1999. |
