3. Beech-Nut Drum. Painted Wood. Circa 1935. 18 height x 22.3 circumference. These Drums were used by the Beechnut Company to distribute samples of candy or chewing gum in the 1930s and 1940s. Most of the drums were used by Beech-Nut's "Gum Girls," young ladies hired to distribute candy samples in various towns. These promotions often occurred in conjunction with the Beech-Nut Circus, a traveling model circus used by the company to promote its products. |
