Orland Campbell
was trained as a painter at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He
specialized in portraits and painted several New York industrialists and
political figures. By the time this work was commissioned, Campbell had
married Elizabeth De Crivito (the daughter from a previous marriage of
Mr. Arkell’s third wife, Louise). Although the museum has another
portrait of Mr. Arkell in its collection, this one is far less formal
and consequently more appealing than the other. |
