The Local History Collection of the Fort Plain Free Library is comprised of writings, maps, cemetery records and family genealogies about or by the residents of the Village of Fort Plain as well as similar items concerning surrounding areas. Many of the works of Nelson Greene, a noted local historian and artist are to be found on our shelves. Of particular interest and size is our holding of Clinton Liberal Institute materials. Photographs, publications, a military uniform, and a table setting are among the items that have been preserved from an era of culture and prosperity in Fort Plain. Interestingly, the Fort Plain Free Library was established as a result of the efforts of Miss Martha A. Bortle, Preceptress of the Clinton Liberal Institute. |
