Lieutenant Peter Keck, of the 115th (Iron Hearted) Regiment, was considered a regimental hero. Born in 1838, in Ephratah, Fulton County, he enlisted at the age of 23 and rose to become the regiment's color sergeant. He was wounded in four separate engagements while carrying the flag and rallying the troops in the midst of battle. After the war, Lieutenant Keck returned to Fulton County to resume his occupation as a farmer. He later moved to Gloversville and served as chaplain for the Col. Sammons Post No. 242 Grand Army of the Republic in Gloversville. Peter Keck is believed to have survived until the early 1920's.
