Wellington Memorabilia. Before 1852. miniature; 13 x 15 cm.
This unique memento of the First Duke of Wellington is one of three miniatures presented to the Gloversville Free Library in 1881 by his son, the Second Duke of Wellington. At that time the present library was known as the Levi Parsons Library and the Second Duke was a close friend of Judge Levi Parsons, its initial financier. This small collection consists of this framed color portrait of the First Duke in military uniform; a photograph, with signature, taken in old age and a lock of his hair, under glass, surrounded by velvet mat and frame. |
