NY. Pictured here is the Johnstown Old Colonial Cemetery on Green Street – Section 2. The headstones shown mark the burial sites of Catherine McIntyre (1758-1832), Peter McIntyre (1760-1821), and Donald McIntyre (1759-1835). These family members were some of the first Scottish immigrants to settle in Johnstown. The Typescript document this photo represents is the complete listing of recorded burials in Johnstown’s oldest cemetery. Notable citizens buried include: Eleazor Cady (1806-1826), brother of Elizabeth Cady Stanton; Col. James Livingston (1747-1832), Revolutionary War soldier with the 1st Canadian Regiment and 11 year member of the New York State Legislature; and Catherine Irving Paris (1738-1806), sister of Washington Irving. The cemetery, home to the remains of many leading citizens of early, colonial and post-Revolutionary Johnstown, is listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places. |
