Loucks Powder Horn
76.131 Loucks Powder Horn. 35.6 cm

This elegantly carved, natural shaped oxen horn is decorated with 2 eagles, one clutching a flag and 2 shields.  The end is accented with a crest and star shaped metal tacks.  Brass fittings hold the leather shoulder strap in place.  The powder horn was carved and carried by Lieutenant J. W. Loucks during the War of 1812.  Loucks was an officer in the 2nd New York Heavy Artillery.
