Loucks Powder Horn Sketch
76.131 Loucks Powder Horn Sketch at 3/4 scale.

Robert M. Hartley drew the sketch of this horn in 1938.

It is one of over 40 original powderhorn sketches housed at the library drawn in the style inspired by Rufus Grider.  These sketches represent "map" and decorative powder horns from the Revolutionary War, the French and Indian Wars and the War of 1812.  Hartley was keenly interested in history and in 1889 was associated with the A.G. Remond, D.A. Devendorf and Rufus Grider in the organization of the first historical society in Montgomery County.  He was also a founder of the Van Epps-Hartley Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Society in Schenectady.
