Room. Several generations of Van Wagenens have worked the land on their beloved 280 acre farm in Lawyersville, Schoharie County. Gifted with the family legacy and an ability to translate his love of the soil, Jared Van Wagenen has left us with wonderful pictures of the days and ways of our pioneer farmers. Jared was educated locally and then at Cornell University. He was a frequent writer for the American Agriculturist, a trustee of the New York State Historical Society and an avid supporter of the Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown. He contributed may articles for the Schoharie County Historical Review, and frequently appeared on radio station WGY, relating stories of agriculture in Eastern New York State. He authored The Golden Age of Homespun and also Days of My Years, an autobiography compiled after his death by the New York State Historical Society. A complete set of the Schoharie County Historical Society Review, published twice yearly, is available in the History Room. They feature articles by Van Wagenen and many other local authors of note. |
