Painting of the Mary Beatrice Cushing Memorial Library
MFR-1.1 Painting of the Mary Beatrice Cushing Memorial Library, oil/acrylic over wood, 90 x 90 cm.

This painting hangs over the fireplace in the front room of the Library. The sign portion is signed "Teller." The view of the house and part of its accompanying Carriage House (which burned in 1994) is signed Chas. K. Jahnke and dated 1971.

The nine painted eggs which garland the house represent the Easter Egg Exhibit. Miss Mildred Vroman, who served as librarian here for many years, and her friend Mrs. Elizabeth Warner were inspired by the Kate Milhouse book The Egg Tree and began painting eggs in 1953. The Exhibit eventually was housed in the Carriage House from 1963 - 1983 and attracted many visitors each year. Miss Vrooman has built a new Easter Egg Exhibit on her property at the junction of Rt. 30A and Rt. 445. For more information, please call her at: (518) 295-8696 or (518) 295-6200.
