Newel post and bottom portion, front staircase, Schoharie Free Library.

The Victorian structure which houses the Schoharie Free Library was built in 1866 on the orders of the first owner, Jacob Miers, but this staircase is not original. No one really knows why, but he had it brought to Schoharie from the 1893 Colombian Exposition in Chicago and installed in the house. It is not known from which pavilion this staircase was obtained. There are several different kinds of wood solids and veneers in the newel post alone.
