OUTREACH/SPECIAL SERVICES

BI-FOLKAL KITS AND SLIDEAS

All of the kits listed below are available, free of charge, for borrowing for a two week period to organizations or individuals through their local library and are intended for a group audience. Call 355-2010 for information.

What are Bi-Folkal kits?
If you guessed glasses, try again. Bi-Folkal kits are multi-media, multisensory programs that come with a "how to do it guide" which contains step-by-step instructions for a successful program. A variety of slides, audio-cassettes, videos, skits, scent stickers, booklets, and props are included on various topics to spark memories and promote discussion. Consider them for older adults and intergenerational programs where you want to encourage people to reminisce and share stories.

Mini-Kits are designed for a shorter program. You'll still find a media presentation and a leader's guide stuffed with program ideas and discussion topics but you'll have to gather most of your own things to touch and make your own photocopies.

Slideas - slides + ideas = sly DEE ahz

Automobiles - Take a look back at the Tin Lizzie, that Merry Oldsmobile, the Edsel, rumble seats, fins, and more. What an effect cars had on us!

County Fairs - Sights, sounds, and smells trigger memories of county fairs-the exhibits, animals, rides and food are featured.

Farm Days - Country life has changed dramatically since the Depression. Explore the sights, sounds, aromas, tears, work and laughter that have gone into the family farm. For those who remember another pace of life, and for those who wish they did.

the Fashion - This is a topic of perpetual interest, because fashion is, after all, an endless replay. What is in fashion now has been in before and will be out and then in again. Each generation chooses its own fashions and rejects an others. Hair, swimwear, shoes, that one unforgettable outfit they are all great topics for women and men to remember and talk about.

Fun and Games - Designed to bring back memories of all kinds of games, offers the opportunity to try some again and have some fun!

Home Front - Every generation has endured war either directly or indirectly. This kit brings back life during World War II. Share and compare experiences, insights, and attitudes about that war, and war in general.

Music - Music is a universal language. Without saying a word, music can remind us of the occasions of our lives- the events, celebrations, and transitions.

Pets - Pets warm our home and hearts. Do you remember the time your favorite dog or cat jumped up on the table and ate the Thanksgiving turkey? For everyone, even if they don't enjoy animals.

School Days - One room schoolhouses. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic take us back to beginnings and highlight that learning continues throughout life.

Spring - Every year, just when we've had enough winter, spring arrives. The season officially begins on a day in March when the night and day are of equal length. Then according to old songs and legends, wonderful things happen very suddenly. The birds appear in the northern regions, the flowers burst into view, and young men and young women fall in love automatically. That's according to old songs and legends. You'll have to check with the people in your groups to find out the truth.

Summertime - Sights and sounds of summer bring back days of lemonade, vacations, sparklers, picnics and just plain fun.

Train Rides - All Aboard! A whistle-stop tour of train rides. This one goes from Chicago to
Minneapolis in 1977. Visuals of scenery, depots, and train cars - inside and out - evoke the feelings of anticipation, friendliness, and pleasure that many people associate with railroad travel.
