>News from Families Sing

The Fort Plain Free Library had 87 people of all ages in attendance at their Families Sing performance featuring local musical group Stone Soup. The November 2 concert included attendance by a number of older people who thanked library director Laura Flynn for making the concert possible. The group Stone Soup is truly talented—with a very enjoyable folk sound. Stone Soup returned last night, November 15, to accompany the kids at the public library/school cooperative event. The Fort Plain High School auditorium holds 400, last night there were maybe a dozen empty seats for the Families Sing concert. The kids were great, school coordinator Kate worked up a cohesive, informative, very fun program and Stone Soup played along for every tune. Everyone had a fantastic time. Families Sing was a terrific opportunity for the library and community. (Laura reports a video was made and she will also make available their how-to program notes!)

The Johnstown Public Library had their music night at the Pleasant Avenue School Monday night, November 13 and they did a great job. Attendance was 150-175, with a lot of Moms and Dads with the kids. The Pleasant Ave staff came up with great games and activities which kept everyone hopping all night. Children’s Coordinator Valerie Rogers reported seeing a lot of smiling faces walking out of the school.

The Children’s Department of the Amsterdam Free Library and St. Mary’s Institute together presented a Family Music Night at St. Mary’s last Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 PM. Sally Romano, Amsterdam Free Library Children’s Coordinator, reported a fun and special evening which featured musical activities and interactive fun for children in Kindergarten through 8th grade and their families. As you can see from the picture, a fun time was had by all!

All Families Sing programs are collaborative projects of the Mohawk Valley Library System and member libraries and are supported by Federal Library Services & Technology Act funds, awarded to the NYS Library by the Federal Institute of Museum & Library Services.
