Take this chance to sharpen your book discussion and evaluation skills. The Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in the United States during the preceding year. The Caldecott Medal is awarded to the illustrator for the most distinguised American picture book for children. Both awards are restricted to authors/illustrators who are citizens or residents of the United States. After award and discussion introductions, we will break up into groups to discuss the mock nominees, then ballot for our winners.
