Workshop – Digital Literacy Programming for Adults & Seniors : Practical Tools for Library Educators

Date: Thursday, October 26, 2017
Time: 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Place: Upper Hudson Library System
Presenter: Rebekah Jarvis-Girtler
Cost: Free to MVLS, SALS and UHLS libraries

Your patrons have burning questions (and deep insecurities) about devices, computers, and digital media. Learn how to confidently address these information needs, build support for your library, and improve the well-being of your community by unleashing your inner tech guru and enhancing your teaching skills. We’ll dig into a host of practical classroom management and instructional design strategies aimed at helping you build welcoming, fun, and well-attended digital literacy programs, plus discuss the unique challenges, attitudes, learning styles, and needs that come into play when working with adults populations on digital literacy topics.

Participants will leave the class with a new grasp on:

  • How to design, assess, and lead effective digital literacy classes using formal education strategies often not covered in library school
  • How to address the barriers (stresses, attitudes, and emotions) adult learners bring to the library and the digital literacy classroom
  • How to collect and leverage patron feedback to continuously improve digital literacy services, advocate for digital literacy instruction as a core library service, and build support and respect for your library

Registration is required. Please register online at

This workshop is a collaboration between the Mohawk Valley, Upper Hudson, and Southern Adirondack Library Systems.
