The Public Libraries Program at the Yiddish Book Center brings Yiddish literature in translation to public libraries across the United States to deepen their engagement with Yiddish literature and Jewish life, religion, and culture, and to foster vibrant cross-cultural dialogue and discussion in their communities.
The theme is Between Two Worlds: Exploring Jewish Culture and Religion through Yiddish Literature. This year’s cohort has been expanded to include 40 participating libraries. Applications are now open until July 14, and libraries will be notified of their status in August 2025.
Selected libraries will receive: a curated selection of titles of Yiddish literature in translation for book club discussion; reading guides, virtual programs, other educational materials related to these books; and generous funding to hold events, invite speakers, or enhance library programming related to these titles. Libraries will also send librarians or reading group facilitators to the Center for an expenses-paid three-day workshop and be eligible to host a small traveling exhibit on the history of Yiddish language and culture.
