Glove Theater, Gloversville, NY

Glove Theatre

The Schine brothers bought and refurbished a Gloversville theater called the Hippodrome and reopened it in 1916. It was the first theater in the vast Schine Theater Empire, which eventually included 150 theaters in 5 states.

The brothers were looking for a headquarters and chose Gloversville's Kasson Opera House because they felt indebted to the town which gave them their start in business. They also created the Glove Theatre in 1920 and added office space upstairs.

Many movies held their premiers in Gloversville with guest appearances from the likes of Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, and Ann Rutherford. The Glove Theatre is currently experiencing a renaissance with its Restoration Project in full swing.
